The Challenge

Here are some simple questions:

Does social bookmarking work?

What's the deal with social bookmarking?

Does social bookmarking have any SEO value and will it help with getting more links to your website?

What tools do I need to be good at social bookmarking?

How time consuming is it, how can keep track of it all and how do I measure progress?

These are all valid question I would like to understand further. If I'm going to waste my time in this direction, I want to know if this will all be worth it.

Because this is a new sub-domain on the blogger account, I'll be curious to see how many links we'll get over time.

The initial metrics

We'll use google as a metric to start off with:

http://www.google.ca/search?q=howtocreateabuzz.blogspot.com

Nothing

How about "Social Networking Buzz"?

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=Social+Networking+Buzz

Nothing

How can I see links to my site? (resource)

You can perform a Google search using the link: operator to find a sampling of links to any site. For instance, [link:www.google.com] will list web pages that have links pointing to the Google home page. Note there can be no space between the "link:" and the web page URL.

http://www.google.com/search?q=link:howtocreateabuzz.blogspot.com

Again - nothing

So we're starting off with a brand new site, domain and NO links

This should be fun!
